  • Many mouths to feed, bad living conditions, no child care opportunities and no help to get was the reality for many single mothers in the slums of Bogotá, capital of Colombia, in the nineties.Flashback: Single providers 22 February 2013 | In the nineties, many single mothers from the slum area of Republica de Canada in Bogotá struggled every day to get food on the table for their children. The project “Single providers”, which was completed in the years 1997-2000, strengthened some of these women’s self-esteem and employment opportunities. The effects for the children were incredible: reduction of internal family conflicts; families used dialogue instead of punishment to solve conflicts; proper treatment of sexual abuse increased by 75 %; number of unwanted pregnancies decreased by over 100 %.

In 1998-2001, “A childhood without violence” helped 488 families out of this cycle of violence through improved treatment options and family guidance.

But they are lucky, because their mum can afford to send them to school in the morning.Flashback: Families with vulnerable children 18 February 2013 | As a poor family, it can be hard to see how your children’s conditions can be improved, especially for children with special needs. The project “Families with vulnerable children” helped 790 children and youngsters together with their ca. 3,200 family members in La Paz, Bolivia, in the years 2002-2004.Development workBolivia

Children's Rights Advocacy

We will not settle with just seeing the UN Children's Convention as a series of nice declarations printed on glossy paper. We walk the talk!
